    Posted: 07 October 2005 at 12:11am
Wanted to see who all was going to make the sale as I am planning on being there though I am probably going to buy a 2 year old this weekend after I look at him so may not be buyer.  Actually if I don't buy this 2 year old good chance he will go through the sale.  Catalogs should be available the 17th so going to pick mine up that day.  I am debating on taking my chances and waiting until I see the catalog before I make a decision on this horse in case we see something else that catches our eye. Of course I am going to be curious to see how this sale goes after the way the summer sale went.  Not to mention with the way the weather has been.  We would probably be in a position to pick up 2, but just don't have the pasture or hay to support it.

We will be there all 3 days. Not sure if I am buying or window shopping. I will always keep my eye out for a good deal. I was told the catalogs would be mailed on the 13th but they may have changed that. Good luck with the purchase of the 2 yr old. I never have a problem finding ones I like, it is keeping them afterwards.

I forget where I heard the 17, might be thats when they would have them for sure at the office to pickup.  I might swing by there on the 14th to see if they have them in as I think I would like to see what they had before we make a decision on buying this 2 year old.

You might call them and check. I am hoping to have mine by this weekend. Doubtful but I can hope. Just like the Christmas toy catalog when I was a kid except now I have to buy my own.

Just called Tattersalls and they haven't received the call from the printers yet to come pick-up the catalogs, but are expecting to get that call today.  I am going to try them about 3 again and hopefully can get one today.  I will let everyone know as soon as I have it in hand.

The catalogs have arrived.  You can currently pick them up at Fennels, at TSE's home base in Nicholasville, and under the Grand Stand at The Red Mile.  There were a few people at Fennels picking up catalogs while I was there so there is some interest in this sale.  There are 409 lots but didn't get a chance to really look at whats in the catalog, but I will tonight.  May shoot to do a chat Saturday morning about whats in the catalog and to post more specific information as to the breakdown.

Thanks for the info. I hope they get them mailed out soon. I was hoping to have it before the horse show this weekend so we would have something to do in between sessions.

Wanted to point out something about the price you are going to pay that I had not noticed before.  Of course we have always bought horses through private sale.  So I was looking at the information at the front of the catalog and thought I would pass it along.  First, didn't realize that they charge the 6% Kentucky sales tax on horses, so that is going to be an additional $60 per $1,000 bid.  The bigger hit is what is usually referred to as the buyers premium, which is just called commision and it is not specificied as to who pays it.  However everything else that the consignor pays is specified by consignor in bold print.  Either way I am use to the buyers premium being a straight 10%.  For any bid under $3,000 it is $300 at this sale, for some reason I thought that break point was less then that.  So if you won a bid of $2,000 it would actually cost you $2,420.  Just figured I would pass along that bit of math because I would say there would be a good number of these horses that go for under $3,000(IMHO) which maybe why the break is at $3000.

The 6% has been there a while now. However, if you buy a mare or stallion, you can tell them it is for breeding purpose and not pay the sales tax.

So Tony what do you think the better deals will be on.  Weanlings or broodmares with foals?  I am kinda leaning toward the weanlings as there are a few and they seem to be people just trying to clean house.  Actually they are 2 that I may consider buying 1 of.  May not specifly say publicly which ones on here though but will probably discuss them all if asked.
